SUPERMAN FOR ALL SEASONS was an ambitious four-part limited series written by Jeph Loeb and wonderfully illustrated by Tim Sale (it followed on the heels of the two creators' BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN limited series). Each book is titled for a Season - SPRING, SUMMER, FALL, and WINTER. The coloring was done in beautiful watercolor stylings by Bjarne Hansen.

The series received numerous awards, critical acclaim, and even led to Jeph Loeb being an associate producer on the 'SMALLVILLE' TV show, which was largely based on the first book in this series - SPRING.

The key element to the series was the narration. It was decided to allow other characters to narrate and give their individual points of view on SUPERMAN, with one narrator per volume. PA KENT GIVES his life as a father to a super-powered son. While not knowing what lay ahead for CLARK, he has confidence that his son would be all right. This, in turn, came from Loeb himself as the father to his son, Sam Loeb, who died an early death from cancer.

Narration in SUMMER, the second book, by LOIS LANE, represents the impact of SUPERMAN's presence in Metropolis and comments on SUPERMAN as an idea. Next, LEX LUTHOR explains how his rivalry with SUPERMAN is like a love story between him and Metropolis, and in the fourth book - WINTER - LANA LANG helps CLARK reconcile his two identities as mild-mannered reporter and SUPERMAN.
