Item Description

Here's a JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY from not too long before the title changed to 'The MIGHTY THOR'!   In the 16-page lead story, "THE VENGEANCE OF THE THUNDER GOD!", picking up right where #114 left off, THOR rescues JANE from LOKI's clutches. ODIN appears and accuses THOR of the no-no of bringing JANE to Asgard. ODIN orders the 'Trial of the Gods', but first THOR is granted 48 hours in which to defeat the ABSORBING MAN.

Aided by reporter Harris Hobbs and a courageous police unit, THOR tricks ABSORBING MAN into absorbing some helium gas. He becomes gaseous and, as lighter-than-air, floats off into space. THOR returns to New York to gaze upon a sleeping JANE before returning to Asgard to face his trial.

Stan Lee scripts it . . and Jack Kirby brings it to life!

Kirby also illustrates another TALES OF ASGARD installment, "A VIPER IN OUR MIDST!", in which LOKI aids the giant, Ghan, in escaping from the Asgardians, and LOKI plans to ask him to repay the favor when he makes his bid to claim the throne of Asgard.

This copy has been well-handled over the years, but is still in very good, excellent reading, shape. Cover- and page-edges have typical toning for a 60-year old comic. The spine is strong, the pages are supple, but there is a bit of raggedness to the top of the back cover.  All these factors contribute to a conservative grading of 4.5 VG+, for which The Overstreet Price Guide suggests a price of $104.00.  But we're going to make this early key issue in THOR's long run, a bit more affordable at $66 . . with our always-L•O•W shipping of just $2!
