A major Silver Age Spider-Man key, The Amazing Spider-Man #31 (December 1965) features the first appearances of Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn , two characters who would become central figures in Spider-Man's mythology. Written by Stan Lee with classic artwork by Steve Ditko , this issue begins the legendary storyline "If This Be My Destiny…!" , one of the most celebrated Spider-Man story arcs of the Silver Age. The issue also introduces Professor Miles Warren , who would later become the villain known as The Jackal , further increasing the importance of this comic in Marvel continuity. Because of the debut of these iconic characters and its connection to one of Spider-Man's most famous storylines, Amazing Spider-Man #31 remains one of the most important mid-1960s Spider-Man keys.
